Haleiwa Triathlon

Haleiwa Triathlon
400m swim~12mi bike~3mi run
Chris and I did the Haleiwa Triathlon this morning and had a great time out on the beautiful north shore. Chris did the entire tri and I did the bike/run portions while my friend Jaime (7mo prego I might add) kicked but on the swim.

The race began in near darkness and the mass (all competitors at once) start made for a human blender effect on the swim. The bike was three loops around Haleiwa town and with the early morning rain it made for some grimey, muddy, but fun conditions. The run was half trail, half beach sand. The deep sand blunted every inch of forward momentum you thought you had and really tested our endurance. Then after all that; run toward the finish line and head straight for the healthy race food. (powdered donuts and cookies)

Here is a pic of Chris blazing on in after the treacherous soft sand run.

Jake was there of course giving lots of smiles in support. Al (Jaimes' hubby) was a champ and watched the little tykes as the big ones went to race.

First in our division!! Our reward: massive breakfast burritos at Rosie's cafe..yum yum.

Hanging around the house

We had a relaxing weekend that was filled with mundane errands, workouts, and oh yeah a heck of a lot of sleep. You heard it, Jake is sleeping through the night and Chris and I are so excited. Hurray!!!

Jake is really starting to love grabbing onto fabric lately.
He cuddles right up to this blanket and cracks himself up when he feels it on his neck.

Aunt Karen got him this hat and it's starting to get a little snug so I had to get one last pic in it before I put it away.
Jake must of known what the hat said on the brim (Little Cutie) and lived up to the title.

The other day we had just finished watching a western movie filled with cowboys, gun fights and tons of horse back riding. (No, we weren't watching Brokeback mountain) Chris must have wanted to give Jake a taste of horse back riding and decided to use our dog Koda as a fill-in. Jake enjoyed it for a bit, but by the time I grabbed the camera he (as you can see) had had enough of the horse play.

Attempt #3

Third time better be the darn charm or I give up! Cross your fingers, toes, and whatever else you can manage because I need all the help I can get when it comes to computer savvyness.

Beach Day!!!

After getting rained out on Friday, Saturday came around and we finally made it out to the beach. We went to Ko'Olina around sunset just to get our feet wet. Jake loved the feel of the warm sand in his toes. He kept curling his little toes up into the sand.

He had a hat on for about 15 seconds, but insisted that we take the silly thing off so that he could get the unrestricted view.

We just sat on the shoreline and let the little ripples come up on us, he really enjoyed it.

Chris and Jake went in a little deeper and it was like a huge bathtub for our little guy. After the sun went down we all cuddled up on the sand. Beach Day was a success!!!

Our fist blog!

What's Up
This is our new family blog. We decided that it was easier for everyone to stay up to date if we published our updates through this blog. To get our blog started, we will just try to get everyone caught up...

So, in the beginning, there was man... several thousand years later, Chris and I got hitched, moved to Hawaii, and decided that our family needed to grow. Our son, Jake, was born on the 13th of July, 2008 at 10:34PM in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He is now 2 months old, and getting bigger every day. At his 2-month checkup last week, he weighed 11 pounds, was 23 inches, and the doctor said that he was very healthy. We have found that he sleeps like a baby only when he is in his swing, but that he also passes out when we take him for a ride in the car. He is not a big fan of laying on his tummy, but his legs are really strong, and he is ready to start playing soccer.

Chris and I decided that we are going to attempt to survive the Honu, Half Ironman on May 30, 2009. For those of you that don't know, a half Ironman starts out with a 1.2-mile swim, continues with a 56-mile bike, and ends with a relaxing 13.1-mile run (half the distance of a marathon). To get things started, I did the NaWahine Sprint Triathlon (500-meter swim, 12-mile bike, and a 5-kilometer run). We tried going to the pool earlier this week, and Chris almost drowned! He has a long way to go, but he went right out for a run as soon as we got home from the pool.

Well, that brings us up to today, and I am tired of typing. I will try and do frequent, short posts, to try and keep everyone up to date.
Have a good weekend,
Nichole
