Another precious baby boy....

We went to our big ultrasound last week where we confirmed our 12 wk suspicions of having another boy! We are thrilled to report that he looked healthy and had no apparent signs of a cleft pallet or lip. Here is a profile shot of our little guy. Below is the 4D pic which always looks a bit alien to me, but you can make out his sweet little face and a small hand rubbing over his nose.
I wish that I could comment more about our experience watching our little man move around and how his little hands and legs moved about, but we didn't really get that expected experience this time around. With as many ultrasounds as we have had, I guess we were due for a not so pleasant tech this time around. I felt like I was getting a systematic oil change as she would probe and swiftly flash from organ to organ taking measurements all the while not saying anything engaging other than "oh, this baby is giving me so much grief" when she needed to get a shot of his left foot. The important thing is that the babe is healthy and hopefully I can get in one more ultrasound in a few weeks.
Jake and I join the Jarrels for a run to the park a few times a week and always have a good time. The kids are getting so much bigger and the adventures change by the week now days. Chloe and Jake have really started to get close as she is interacting with him more. They crack each other up and play really well together as big brother skills have already started to set in.
What does this mama want to do on her day of sacrificial slavery from her family? Make them take her on adventures of course! After the boys made me a delicious breakfast we headed out to Waikiki for some calm water kayaking. Hah! Jake really wanted to glide along in the water vs. on the water so we hooked him on and seriously he was all smiles and giggles in this picture.
It was quickly brought to our attention that we were not allowed to stay in the protected lagoon with our "craft" and that we needed to head in.....or....head out. Surf was 3ft hawaiian style with overhead sets rolling in regularly. We decided to go for it in between sets and luckily made it out past the break without difficultly. As soon as we did made it out into deep blue waters the swells delivered on the reef and the internal panicking process of trying to figure out how we were going to get back in began.
Chris timed it well and we were one wave away from being in the clear when the last wave approached from behind. We caught the wave but only with the back of the boat as the front completely surged downward into the water, thus capsizing and throwing us all overboard. Jake was clutched in my arms and we quickly came to the surface after the wave passed overhead. Thankfully we had made it to the shallows and the boat stayed upright so that we could quickly climb back aboard and paddled back to the sandy shore unscathed. Well, we are still picking out reef from our hands a feet but otherwise unscathed.
After the adrenalin wore down a bit we were all fine and Jake was ready to play in the sand after a few minutes of snuggles. We stayed on the beach for awhile soaking up the sun as I renegotiated my Mother's Day gift.
Chris had planned on getting me a full day at the spa, which sounded amazing, relaxing, and really there was no greater gift. But then I saw all the paddle boarders on the water and the big difference here was that everyone was able to do it. Kids, Grandparents, skinny, Samoan, EVERYONE could do it! I immediately thought of all the fun we would have with friends and visiting family and decided to trade in my relaxing day at the spa for countless fun memories on the water.
